We are proud to continue our highly-regarded training programme, as two new recruits join our London office. We are pleased to welcome Lara Weaver and Matthew Holt to our team.
Lara graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in biochemistry before completing a postgraduate degree in clinical biochemistry. She joins Forresters’ Life Sciences Team as a trainee patent attorney and expressed how excited she is to be working at such an established company.
“My first week was spent at the London office, getting to know the team there who are all great to work with,” said Lara. “I was keen to train with Forresters, as it’s a long-established company, but also forward-thinking and modern – it’s reassuring to see they have such a high number of female partners”.
“Another great thing about Forresters is their client-orientated ethos. It’s easy to see why they are leaders in their field as they make sure the client is their number one priority. I’m excited to be bringing my skills in biochemistry to the Life Sciences Team. My thesis at university focussed on CRISPR technology, which is used to edit genes and alter pieces of DNA. This is an ever-growing area of technology and I’m looking forward to working on CRISPR patents at Forresters”.
Matthew also joins us as a trainee patent attorney after graduating from the University of Bristol with an MSci in Chemistry. As part of his degree he spent a year in industry, working as a synthetic chemist for a multinational chemicals company. Matthew commented he is excited to be joining the Chemistry Team at Forresters.
“Forresters has an excellent reputation and is listed in the Financial Times as one of Europe’s leading patent law firms,” added Matthew. “The company is widely recognised as a leader in its field, and so joining the team at Forresters is an opportunity not to be missed”.
“Everyone at the London office was welcoming and friendly, and both Lara and I have now been set up to work remotely. Despite not being based full-time in the office, I’m looking forward to working with the team and utilising my experience in synthetic organic chemistry. I am working alongside Chris Bond, who is renowned for his skills in drafting, and I’m sure I will learn a lot from him”.
Mentors Chris Bond and Jenny Donald, who are partners at Forresters, were thrilled to welcome Lara and Matthew to the team. Chris commented: “We have been absolutely delighted to find such talented trainees to join the team here in London. They can see that not only are we committed to the needs of our clients but we are also dedicated to investing in future talent, helping our staff develop and find their individual strengths”.
Jenny added: “A number of our staff joined us as trainee patent attorneys and their career has progressed through the firm – we are all keen to nurture the skills of our staff and provide them with the tools they need to grow. We know that Lara and Matthew will be a credit to the firm and we wish them well as they study towards their professional qualifications”.
