The Winchester PPP Is Back In Town

A unique triathlon, which raises thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support, is pedalling, paddling and pacing its way back to Winchester.
We are sponsoring The Winchester Pedal, Paddle, Pace (PPP) in its return to the city, after being held virtually last year due to Covid restrictions. The event will take place on July 11th and consists of a 20km bike ride, a 5km run and a 1.5km kayak on the Itchen Navigation. Since the PPP began in 2004, over £150,000 has been donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Organiser Mike Sharpe said it’s great to have the event back in the beautiful city of Winchester. “It’s fantastic to bring competitors back to Winchester, and the race will start at the iconic Guildhall in High Street,” he said. “Usually we have between 350 and 500 competitors and the race starts in four waves. However, we are restricting the numbers this year and expect to have around 150 people taking part. The race will begin as a rolling start, with a few seconds between each small group, it should be an exciting and very visual opening to the event.”
Competitors can enter as an individual or take part in a relay team and do a single leg each. This year every competitor will be receiving one of the unique wooden medals, which are sponsored by us and have been well received in previous years by participants.
“The support we receive from Forresters is invaluable as it covers all our external costs, such as the official timing company, scaffolding, the pontoon for the kayaking and bike racks,” said Mike. “This means that every penny of the entry fees can go to Macmillan Cancer Support.”
Attending the race are James Cornford and Hunter Annan. James, who is a partner said: “We were really pleased to hear that the event was back in Winchester this year and it’s fantastic that so many people are gearing up to take part. Forresters has been supporting the event for a number of years, and we usually enter competitors from all our regional offices.
This year one of our trainee patent attorneys, Hunter, is taking part in the event, and the firm’s former managing partner, who lives locally and has been a regular participant of the event, is also taking part. It’s terrific to see so many people getting behind these sporting events, which raise vital funds for charities. The Winchester PPP has raised thousands to help support people while they are at a critical time in their cancer journey and we are proud to be backing it again for another year.”
