I enjoy working with my clients to understand their businesses and then help develop and deliver a tailored strategy that best captures value from their intellectual property.

I work with a range of clients and organisations in terms of size and technologies.  I advise entrepreneurs, start-ups, research organisations, SMEs and multinational companies.  My background is in physics so I can work with most technologies.  I have professional experience in fields such as nuclear and naval marine valves, oil field technologies, aerospace, wearable technology, additive layer and advanced manufacture, medical devices, domestic consumer products, fuel cells and quantum technology.  I have particular expertise in obtaining effective patent and design protection, freedom to operate, IP strategy, IP audits, patent landscaping and enforcing IP rights.

My experience of intellectual property extends to management roles. Before joining Forresters I was a technical manager and oversaw development of intumescent fire retardant coatings where I needed to ensure all relevant IP was captured.  I also advise on IP strategy in my position on the External Advisory Board of the UK Quantum Technology Hub for Sensors and Metrology which is a £35 million project being delivered by the Universities of Birmingham, Glasgow, Nottingham, Southampton, Strathclyde and Sussex.

I am proud of my honorary lectureship at the University of Birmingham which was awarded for my work at the School of Physics where I originated a workshop as part of the undergraduate program and co-ordinate a student competition.  I also enjoy the challenges of being a business mentor for the Prince’s Trust and a trustee at one of Birmingham’s largest mental health charities; both of which I find immensely rewarding.

Out of the office I can be found mostly running after our son, and (less so) training in the gym or playing the tabla!
