Forresters raises funds with the Tour de Law challenge

Posted:

A team of keen Forresters cyclists have used their combined efforts to raise vital funds for a breast cancer charity.

The Tour de Law 2020 challenge is an annual event where law firms, chambers and others in the legal sector from across the UK are invited to enter teams of up to ten to go head-to-head in a bid to become the Tour de Law 2020 Champions.

This year the Forresters team cycled more than 180km in a week to raise funds to help those affected by breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the funds will go to Breast Cancer Now – a charity that focusses on world-class research and life-changing care for those with a diagnosis.

Dan Rusby-Gale, a partner from our London office, said: “We had a choice of getting outside on our bikes, using a static one indoors or heading to the gym to clock up the kilometres. The team did an excellent job and we were pleased to take part in this fantastic challenge that is raising money for such an important cause.

We know that this year charities are having to re-think how they hold their events, and yet are still in need of vital funds. Breast Cancer Now is working on cutting-edge research and providing much needed care for those with this disease, and we are pleased we have been able to support them.”

In England, every year around 46,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer. Almost nine in ten (85%) of women survive breast cancer for five years or more.

However, breast cancer survival is improving and has doubled in the past 40 years in the UK due to a combination of improvements in treatment and care, earlier detection through screening and a focus on targets, including faster diagnosis.

An estimated 600,000 people are alive in the UK after a diagnosis of breast cancer and this is predicted to rise to 1.2 million in 2030.
