Forresters continue support for Neston Cricket Club


Neston Cricket Club and Liverpool-based Forresters have renewed their partnership for another four years.

Forresters – a leading firm of patent and trade mark attorneys – will be providing support throughout the year and sponsoring the Sporting Lunch, which takes place during the club’s popular Marquee Week. Marquee Week also includes The Parkgate Proms and The Summer Ball, and the aim is to raise £30,000 from the events.

Craig Stubbs, general manager at the club, said: “Having sponsors like Forresters is huge for us, as it enables us to continue to invest in the club and ensure we have the best facilities for all players. This helps our young players reach their potential such as one of our youth members, Izzie Howell, who represented Wales in the Commonwealth Games last year.”

Even though the venue is called the cricket club, along with the two cricket pitches there are also twelve tennis courts, three squash courts and one hockey astro-pitch. There is also a boules green and space for croquet, and at The Parkgate Clubhouse there are three bars including a cafe bar, two function rooms and a meeting room.

Craig said: “It is great that local companies, like Forresters, want to get behind the club. Some of the funding goes to our Shrimp Appeal, which was set up a few years ago by our current president Tony Bush, and it helps children from less privileged backgrounds get involved in sport. We work with local schools in the area, and they will tell us if they have any pupils that are doing well in a sport, but can’t afford to be a member at a club. We will assess a child and, if they are good enough, they will get funding from the appeal to pay for costs such as training and equipment.”

Ross Walker, equity partner at Forresters, which is based in the Port of Liverpool Building at Pier Head, said they were looking forward to the Sporting Lunch, which this year takes place on Thursday 4th July.

“It is great to know that our support at the club goes towards costs such as upgrading the pitch and buying new hockey goals, but also helps youngsters through the Shrimp Appeal,” said Ross. “It is exciting to be sponsoring the club for another four years.”
